10 Most Loser Behaviors In The Gym

Fact Checked

A gym is a place where we get better in life; it doesn’t matter what your goal is in the gym; you are there to get better somehow.

That could be improving your cardio, losing weight, gaining size, or getting stronger.

But what all gym-goers have in common is that they are trying to improve in some shape or form.

Overall the gym environment is positive, and most people are helpful and friendly.

However, some gym-goers don’t know exactly how to behave, making them look like losers to other gym members.

Take The Quiz

This post will go over ten things to help you not look like a loser in the gym.

10 Most Loser Behaviors In The Gym

Ego lifting

Even though you may feel like a bigshot loading the plates up, it isn’t always the right approach.

If you can’t perform the exercise well because you are lifting too heavy, you may look like a loser in the gym.

There is nothing impressive about swinging the weights in barbell curls or bending your back in the deadlift; even though the weight might be heavy, it isn’t as beneficial as lowering the weight and performing the exercises with good form.

You don’t need to impress anybody in the gym, and you certainly won’t impress anyone with ego lifting.

Doing overly complicate exercises

When you look at footage from when bodybuilding legends such as Ronnie Coleman were training, you can see that he sticks to the basics.

Ronnie wasn’t overcomplicating his workouts doing strange, useless variations of exercises.

Even though you may feel like an expert doing exercises, you can’t even perform 100% right because it’s so technical you may look like a loser in the process.

You don’t have to overcomplicate things; focus your attention on the significant compound movements and do some isolation on the side.

You don’t have to try to look like an expert doing overly complicated technical variations to try to look like an expert bigshot in the gym.

Not reracking the weights

Nothing screams loser more than someone who doesn’t rerack the weights.

If you don’t rerack the weights, you are almost saying screw you to other gym members.

Even though you may save 1-2 minutes not reracking the weights, it will make you look like a complete loser that doesn’t respect anyone.

You may think you are too good to rerack the weights or that it’s the gym staff’s job to rerack the weights after you; none of this is true, rerack the weights after you finish your workouts; otherwise, you will look like a complete loser.

Kissing Your Girlfriend In The Gym

Of course, having a girlfriend and working out with her from time to time is nothing unconventional.

However, when you start kissing your girl and cuddling her in the gym like you are on your honeymoon, you will look like a loser.

A gym is a place to work out, and it’s not a place for simps trying to make their girlfriend happy.

Using Belts and Straps in every exercise

Belts and straps are excellent accessories, for example, when you are doing a lot of sets in the deadlift.

However, using these accessories in every exercise is not ideal; you don’t need straps in every workout, you don’t need straps in every set of lat pulldowns.

You also don’t need to wear your belt every time you lift your arms.

If you use those accessories in every exercise, you will look like a loser in the gym.

Workout Shirtless

Unless you are Ronnie Coleman or a bodybuilder at that level, don’t work out shirtless.

If you are a competitive bodybuilder and take your shirt off in the gym’s lighting for a quick posedown, that is acceptable or when no one is in the gym.

However, sweating into every machine you use because you want to work out shirtless will make you look like a loser.

If you want to see your progress go into the locker room and pose there; usually, there is good lighting and many mirrors in the locker rooms.

Talking on the phone for a long period of time while sitting on high demand equipment

If you need to answer the phone in your gym and need to spend more than 5 minutes on the phone, don’t hog a high-demand piece of equipment such as a bench on a Monday while on the phone.

Nobody likes to wait for equipment; what is more annoying is waiting for someone slacking off and taking forever to complete their sets.

If you are on the phone for 5 minutes or more, don’t do it while hogging equipment.

Walking around with ILS (Imaginary lat Syndrome)

Attempting to look more muscular than you are by flexing your lats and putting your arms outward will not make you look more impressive.

If you have Imaginary lat syndrome, people will see it right away; you can’t fake having muscles no matter how hard you try.

So next time you walk with your imaginary lat syndrome all over the gym, remember that you look like a loser if you continue doing it.

Taking Selfies In The Gym

You have probably seen someone lift their shirt off and snap a picture of their abs in the gym mirror.

Then throughout their workout, they continually take photos of themselves in the gym; these people are rarely impressive and may have little six-pack abs but other than that, there is nothing notable about their physique.

Doing this will make you look like a loser in the gym.

Doing a WOD in a traditional gym

Crossfit has gained a lot of popularity in recent years, and they have specific gyms for their activity.

I am no expert on wods or whatever they call their workouts in Crossfit, but I know it is some circuit training with many exercises back to back while they time every workout.

Doing a wod in a regular gym may make you look like a loser, especially if it involves many exercises and you are running around in the gym doing random activities.
