Think back to when you were 17 years old. What had you accomplished at that point in your life? You’d probably gotten your drivers license. Maybe you were on a varsity sports team. Maybe you’d made the National Honors Society. Maybe you’d gotten to second base with a girl.
But chances are you hadn’t set any world records in anything.
Now meet Joseph Pena, a high school kid from San Antonio. In 2014, at the age of 15, Pena set a world junior record when he squatted 727 pounds raw, without raps, at the drug-tested USA Powerlifting Nationals.
Now, at the age of 17, he’s set another world record by squatting a whopping 875 pounds at the Holy Cross Invitational weightlifting meet. And he made it look easy.
