Gym members are very different in shape, size, personality, but that doesn’t matter.
What matters most is proper gym etiquette and respect for other members; even if you are a gym veteran, you can still have some bad habits that can make the gym a worse place for everyone.
There are rules in writing in most gyms on what you should not do; then there are also some rules that aren’t in writing but are just common sense.

Not reracking the weights
Every time I have a deadlift or squat day in my gym, I know the first thing I have to do is take some plates of the bar some loser left behind.

I don’t care if it is a 22 lbs plate on each side; I still have to take it off because my warmup set is always with a 44 lbs plate on each site.
Sometimes there is even a lot of plates on the bar.
If you are training in the gym, please rerack the weights out of respect to others.
It’s so annoying to have to rerack weights after someone else.
Unwanted spotters
I don’t care how much weight I’m lifting in the bench press or dumbbell bench press.

If someone doesn’t ask for a spot, DON’T spot them (unless they dropped the bench bar on their chest)
There are loads of people in the gym strong as hell that can easily lift heavy weights without a spot.
It’s straightforward, DON’T spot someone unless they ask you to.
Most people in the gym will ask others for a spot if they need it.
This has happened too often when I’m lifting on the bench, and I easily have power for at least 4-5 more reps.
Some loser rushes behind me and starts spotting, touching the bar, and pushing it with me.
I know the unwanted spot is meant to be a nice gesture, but you just ruined my set.
Super setting on-demand equipment in a busy gym
I have nothing against the super setting, but what annoys the heck out of me is if someone is super-setting four machines or doing a CrossFit workout in a busy regular gym.
Sure, you can do that in a gym with a few people, and not everyone is waiting for equipment.
It’s also the way you superset; if you are super-setting, taking up little equipment, then, of course, that’s fine.

What’s annoying if someone is doing supersets with four different machines like taking up the squat rack, bench press, deadlift section, and a pec deck in a busy gym.
That means nobody can use that equipment because of your crazy superset.

Giving pointers to stronger and more experienced lifters
If a powerlifting champion who is better, stronger, with more experience than me would come and give me some pointers, I would accept it, listen, and take that advice.
However, it can get pretty annoying when someone who doesn’t know what he is talking about tells me I will ruin my back with heavy deadlifts.
The rule is, if you are not an expert in lifts, don’t give unwanted advice.
If you see someone deadlifting with terrible form and an experienced deadlifter, you can give pointers.
However, if you are someone who doesn’t even deadlift and don’t know how the hell it works, don’t advise on the deadlift.
It’s pretty straightforward; it’s like someone poor telling people how to get rich; it just doesn’t make any sense.
The chit chatters taking forever to use high demand equipment
Have you seen a group of people using high-demand equipment like the bench press, but they take forever to complete their sets because they aren’t really in the gym to work out; they are there to socialize.
In a busy gym with limited weight benches or any other equipment, it is disrespectful to take forever to complete your workout.
Especially if it’s a group of people who aren’t working out, they socialize between each set, taking forever to finish.
Nobody cares if there is plenty of equipment available, however on a busy time, this annoys many serious lifters who are in the gym to complete their workout at a decent time.
Leaving gym equipment soaked in sweat
You are working out hard and sweat a lot, great that you are pushing hard and getting better.
What’s not good is the sweat these people leave on equipment and don’t wipe it off.
It takes 30 seconds to clean the sweat off the equipment; nobody wants to sit in other people’s sweat; that’s just disgusting.
Most gyms have paper towels and some cleaning spray to clean the machines or equipment after use.
If you are sweating like a pig, CLEAN the equipment, it’s not complicated.
Hovering over you while they wait for the equipment
If someone is waiting for the equipment you are using, that’s completely normal.
It’s just a common practice if someone is waiting for the deadlift and asks you how many sets you got left.
However, when those people are hovering over you, inpatient, making the situation even more uncomfortable, that’s just annoying.
If I have two sets left in the deadlift, I will not perform them faster even though someone is hovering over me and constantly asking.
Just sit down, relax, and wait patiently for the equipment; it’s good to ask people how many sets they got left.
Because if someone says eight sets (that has happened to me), you can restructure your workout so that you do something else first.
Out of shape trainers giving advice
That’s something I cannot comprehend.
If you are a trainer, you cannot be out of shape; it’s your job to be not out of shape if you train people to get fit.
The methods out of shape coaches don’t work. How can they? If you are training someone and helping them to lose fat, you better be ripped.
I’m not talking about powerlifting coaches here, just regular gym coaches that help people get fit.
If you are a fat coach, your priority should be to get in shape so you have credibility; it’s like we talked about before.
An out-of-shape person advising on losing weight is like a poor person trying to teach someone to be rich.
People using gym benches, racks to for curls


If you are doing bicep curls, you don’t need to do it in the squat rack.
You also don’t need a bench to hold the bar.
This isn’t too common, but it happens now and again.
People using high-demand equipment for bicep curls when they can just put the bar on the floor.
Aggressive and Rude people in the gym
The gym should be a friendly place where everyone training is trying to improve their lives.
Sadly some people in the gym are aggressive and rude.
Let me tell you about an example.
One time I was doing my chest workout, I saw that the cable crossovers were accessible, or at least I thought it was.
It turns out someone was super-setting and was doing a few sets in the bench press in between the cable crossovers.
I did not know that and proceeded to start my cable crossover set.
The guy comes and screams at me and tells me he is using the cable crossover very aggressively.
Instead of offering me to work in or saying calmly that he was using the equipment.
I mean the guy left the cable crossovers for more than 2 minutes and there was no sign of him using it again.
I’ve also seen guys in the gym asking for a spot and roasting the spotter for being a lousy spotter.
Some people are new to the gym and don’t know precisely how to spot weights correctly.

Saying a trainer cannot be out of shape is quiet hilarious.
How about a retired olympic athlete who trained decades with the best trainers available. Im sure if they have a belly is because they have decided thats not their priority, yet that doesn’t stop them from remembering, studying or putting people on the right track to achieve as they did

Sitting on much liked equipment on their phones not working the muscles
Sweat like a pig ??? Pigs don’t sweat that’s why they wallow in mud. Whur er ya one of them thar city slickers ?
years ago at flint mi y -jiust out from army wanted to bench- only1 in gym–saw 405 on bar -waited 5 minutes- unloaded down to 135 warm up- as i moved up angry guy appeared telling me to put plates back on to 405– laughed at him- he saw i wasnt intimidated at all-,told him not to take 15 minurtes between sets on only bench available–
How about that guy that bangs the plates excessively when loading “hey everyone look at me”
You missed the most annoying thing. The mobile phone. Many times I am held up with some idiot on his/her phone while sitting on a machine. A normal workout is maybe 45 minutes or an hour. Surely the phone can be left in bag during the workout. Bloody rediculous !!!
