The bodybuilding show Mr. Olympia is just around the corner; it will be held this year in Orlando, Florida, October 7th – October 10th.
Mr. Olympia was for the first time hosted in 1965, and since then, it has been the top bodybuilding show in the world.
Only the best bodybuilders in the world qualify for the Mr. Olympia contest, and it’s the best of the best.
In this post, we will reflect on the past and make a list of the bodybuilders who have won the Mr. Olympia title most often.
1-2 Ronnie Coleman (8 wins)
Ronnie Coleman is one of the giant mass monsters we’ve ever seen on the Olympia stage. He dominated Mr. Olympia for eight consecutive years from 1998-2005.

His biggest competition was Jay Cutler, who finally managed to beat Ronnie Coleman in 2006.
He retired in 2007 after placing 4th in the Olympia.
It’s safe to say that Ronnie is one of the best bodybuilders we’ve ever seen, and he dominated the competition in his prime shape.
1-2 Lee Haney (8 wins)
Lee Haney, like Ronnie Coleman, won Mr. Olympia for eight consecutive years.
In his first Mr. Olympia in 1983, he got 3rd place.

From 1984-1991 Lee Haney dominated the competition; in 1991, Dorian Yates came in 2nd, and that was also the last year Lee Haney competed in Mr. Olympia.
Dorian Yates dominated Mr. Olympia after Lee Haney retired but more on that later.
3-4 Arnold Schwarzenegger (7 wins)
Arnold Schwarzenegger is probably the most famous bodybuilder in the world. However, after his competing days, Arnold became successful in acting and politics.
Arnold Schwarzenegger won Mr. Olympia for six consecutive years from 1970-1975.
He was supposed to be a judge in the 1980 Mr. Olympia but decided to make a comeback where he won it for the 7th time.
In his early days, Sergio Olivia was Arnold’s biggest competition.
After placing second to Sergio in 1969, Arnold claimed the title in 1970, beating Sergio Olivia, the previous champion.
3-4 Phil Heath
Phil has been the most dominating bodybuilder in the last decade.
He won the title from Jay Cutler in 2011 when Jay placed second to Phil Heath; the year before that, Phil placed second, and Jay won it.
From 2011 till 2017, Phil Heath won the Mr. Olympia competition.

Phil Heath’s most significant competition was Kai Greene.
Kai Greene placed second to Phil 3 times before he quit competing in Mr. Olympia.

5. Dorian Yates (6 wins)
Dorian Yates was one of the biggest bodybuilders we’ve seen on the Olympia stage.
He dominated the competition with mass for six consecutive years ranging from 1992-1997.
He retired after suffering an injury.
Dorian’s most significant competition was Shawn Ray and Kevin Levrone, who placed second many times in his era.
6. Jay Cutler (4 wins)
Jay Cutler won the Mr. Olympia title 4 times in his competitive career.
Jay had some of the toughest competition. Before winning the Olympia for the first time in 2006, he had gotten 2nd place 3-years in a row when Ronnie Coleman dominated the competition.
Jay won the Olympia 2006 and 2007.
However, interestingly Dexter Jackson surprisingly won Mr. Olympia in 2008.
Jay made a comeback for the title and managed to win the Olympia 2 more times in 2009 and 2010
In 2011 Jay placed second to Phil Heath, and after that show, he retired from competitive bodybuilding.
7-8 Sergio Olivia (3 wins)
Sergio Olivia was one of the first bodybuilders we’ve seen on stage at the Olympia with his first competition in 1966.
Sergio managed to win the title 3 consecutive years, 1967-1969.
He won Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1969, but Arnold won Olivia in every competition after that.
Sergio Olivia retired from bodybuilding in 1972 when Arnold was dominating the sport.
7-8 Frank Zane (3 wins)
Frank Zane is known for his incredibly aesthetically pleasing body.
He wasn’t the biggest bodybuilder, but he still managed to win Mr. Olympia 3 times from 1977-1979.
After Franco Columbo retired, Frank placed 2nd in 1976; it was Frank’s time to win it.
9-10 Larry Scott (2 wins)
Larry Scott is the first-ever Mr. Olympia champion. He competed for two years before retiring from bodybuilding.
Winning the Mr. Olympia title in 1965 and 1966.
In 1966 Larry Scott managed to beat Sergio Olivia which would win the title the following year.
9-10 Franco Columbo (2 wins)
Franco Columbo won the Mr. Olympia title 2 times in his competitive career.
Franco was competing many times against Arnold, and he won the lightweight division 2 times when Arnold got overall.
Once Arnold took a break from bodybuilding Franco managed to win it in 1976, and he also won it in 1981.
He retired from competitive bodybuilding after placing 4th in the 1983 Mr. Olympia competition.
