Rich Piana, the youtube bodybuilding superstar, sadly passed away in 2017 when he was just 46-years old.
However, his legacy lives on, and still to this day, thousands of people are watching his videos.
Rich may now be known for his big legs, even though in his competing days, Rich focused more on his leg development, and at that time, his legs were very impressive.
After he stopped competing, he didn’t care for big legs; he wanted to fit into his jeans without a hassle, don’t have to get rashes from having too big legs, and that’s why he didn’t train them that much.
Rich Explains Why he didn’t train legs much:

I don’t really train legs, I’m not a bodybuilder anymore and I’m not trying to have 34 inch quads anymore, it’s not practical for me, I’m never going to get on stage and to put jeans on and not having them fit, to put baby oil in between my legs all day, have rashes and nowhere for certain things to be, it just doesn’t make sense to me.
Rich Piana Leg Workout
Even though Rich Piana did not prioritize his leg training, he still trained them from time to time.
He can easily rep out four plates in the squat for several reps.
Rich Piana is a big fan of the squat, and he said that it is his number one exercise to build the legs.
For me squats is number 1, nothing beats squats, the hardest exercise there is, the hardest to do is always going to be the best, the one you hate the most is the best. The exercise you hate doing is the one you should be doing every day, every workout, and in the squat the biggest mistake I see people make is not going full range of motion.
Here’s a leg workout routine that Rich Piana has used in one of his videos:
- Leg Extension 6 sets and 40-12 reps
- Squats 6 sets and 30-8 reps
- Hack Squats 6 sets and 20 reps
- Lying Leg Curls 6 sets and 40-20 reps
- Seated Leg Curls 5 sets and 20 reps
- Stiff Legged Deadlift 3 sets and 20 reps
