52-year old Mike O’Hearn is no stranger to lifting weights and staying in shape. He has been in shape since he was a teenager and had been lifting weights for around 40-years.

Many people believe that a low-carb diet is a way to go in losing weight; even though it may work fast, it isn’t the best diet, according to Mike O’Hearn.

It’s terrible, in his opinion, to drop the carbs fast in any diet.

He believes you should set up your metabolism so that it can burn the carbs you eat, allowing you to eat a lot of carbs that your body burns.

Mike explains why low carb is a no go when losing weight:

The brain needs 50-grams of carbohydrates to work, I know a lot of people especially when they get older that don’t even eat 50-grams of carbohydrates. So what happens is that they change how their body works, so they start using their muscle as energy. Because they are just taking in protein and high fats and what happens is that the body changes. So instead of using carbohydrates as energy, it starts using your muscle because they are not feeding their body correctly. Here’s the trick that people seem to forget, as fast as it drops it will come right back.
