Louie Simmons was an American powerlifter who founded the gym Westside Barbell; Westside Barbell is a hardcore powerlifting gym based in Colombus, Ohio.
Louie Simmons also invented the method and training style that his athletes at Westside Barbell gym used; he was a true pioneer in strength and powerlifting.
Louie Simmons died at 74-years old, and Dave Palumbo reported this devastating news on his popular YouTube channel RX Muscle.

This just in, Louie Simmons one of powerlifting royalty has passed, I got word from a couple of powerlifters and then I texted with Eddie Cohen who is one of the greatest powerlifters of all time, and was verified that Louie was suffering from kidney issues and some just failing health in general. He was 74-years old and he checked himself out of the hospital against medical advice something that Louie did very often throughout his life and he passed at home. He will probably go down as the godfather of powerlifting, he invented the westside method.

Louie Simmons was open and honest about drug use in sports, and in an interview with Joe Rogan, he said:
“I went on anabolics January 1970. And so, what is this, 2016? I’ve never been off ’em.” “See it’s not against the rules to take drugs. It’s against the rules to get caught taking drugs.”
In the Westside Barbell gym, you had to receive a special invitation from Louie Simmons to train there; he was passionate about strength and powerlifting and continued to do what he loved until the day he passed away.
