The Unexpected Loss in 2008
In 2008 something surprising happened at the Mr. Olympia competition.
Jay Cutler, who had been dominating the Olympia for two years, unexpectedly lost to Dexter Jackson.
Dexter came in with a fabulous physique and deserved the win thoroughly.
However, Jay didn’t come in his best shape, and after that show, Jay Cutler describes how everyone lost faith in him.
Everyone was like Jay is never coming back, even my own sponsor, even Flex turned against me, Alan Donelly, they weren’t confident I was going to come back. I had a chip on my shoulder, I lost the support of everyone, when you talk about someone’s downsides and people not believing in you I was the victim of that, everyone gave up on me, except some of my sponsors, and people close to me that saw the progression over the time.

Nobody in the history at Mr. Olympia had ever lost a contest and won it again.
Jay Cutler explains how he decided to come back.
I’m like listen, I’m coming back, I’m making another run at this thing. I’ve been there I’ve fallen down, and I’m coming back once again to stand there alone. That’s a lot of people that doubt that I’m coming back, but there is also a lot of people that doubted when I was placing second, second, second. I feel like I give everything to this sport and that’s what they’ll see once again in 2009.
Jay came back in 2009 and won the show and did his legendary Quad Stomp pose, which is one of the most incredible poses we’ve seen in bodybuilding.
Jay Cutler also won the 2010 Mr. Olympia and, in total, won the contest four times.
