Arnold Schwarzenegger started his career as a bodybuilder back in the ’70s. He won the Olympia title 7x times, was shocked when he first met Ronnie Coleman as he was going on stage competing.
“First of all Ronnie was breaking through where we were in size, he becomes like another dimension, there were like lumps and mass.
He and I talked and he was standing right in front of me before he went out on stage. I remember it took me some time to look from the left shoulder to the right shoulder. When he did his lat spread it looked like the curtains closed.
He was also a great poser at the same time. He showed that there is another dimension to other bodybuilders as far as size and proportions you can go. I think he broke through that. Since then a lot of guys have broken through that and gotten much much bigger”
When Arnold used to compete Bodybuilding was more about having an aesthetically pleasing physique with great proportions, while later it became more about who was the biggest mass monster.
Arnold has also criticized many bodybuilders who have not been able to control their stomach during poses and not being able to do a vacuum pose which was a big factor back in the day when he was competing.
At the same time he can’t do nothing but admire the physique Ronnie Coleman brought out back when he was competing.
Ronnie was a whole new breed of a mass monster and he won the Mr. Olympia 8 times and he was probably the biggest bodybuilder to ever step onto the Olympia stage.
