Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the most successful bodybuilders in history, and according to many bodybuilding fans, he is the one who put bodybuilding on the map.
Before Arnold competed, bodybuilding was an underground sport that the general public was not so much into. Still, when Arnold came along, he was able to make bodybuilding more appealing to the general public.
The bodybuilding film Pumping Iron became popular, and the main star in that movie was, of course, the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger.
As a competitive bodybuilder, Arnold won all the major titles available, most notably the Mr. Olympia title, which he won seven times as a competitive bodybuilder.
Arnold Schwarzenegger also won 5 Mr. Universe titles and is considered one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time.

In recent years Arnold had criticized modern bodybuilding because back when he was competing, bodybuilding was about size, symmetry, and aesthetics.
Now the focus is more on size, and many current bodybuilders have tremendous guts, but they still win shows even if they lack the aesthetics of old-school bodybuilding.
Arnold had said this is a step in the wrong direction and believes bodybuilding judges should reward guys with more aesthetics and a tiny waist like they did back in the 70s when he was competing in bodybuilding.
In 1977 Arnold was in an interview discussing the life of a bodybuilder. At that time, Arnold had won 5 Mr. Univers titles and 6 Mr. Olympia titles.
However, Arnold returned to bodybuilding after that Interview, and in 1980 he won his last (seventh) Mr. Olympia title.
