Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the most iconic bodybuilders in history; in his competitive career, Arnold Schwarzenegger won Mr. Olympia seven times.

In the ’70s, Arnold dominated the sport of bodybuilding; he won the Olympia from 1970-1975, then he came back in the 1980 Olympia and won the title again.

After his incredible bodybuilding career, Arnold became a movie star; he also succeeded in politics and is one of the most successful men in the world.

Back in the day when Arnold was competing, bodybuilders were more aesthetic than the bodybuilders we see today.

Comparing the Mr. Olympia competitors when Arnold was competing to the competitors now shows that the sport has changed significantly.

In today’s bodybuilding competitions, it’s all about mass, but it was more about the overall look, aesthetics, and symmetry back in the day.

In the ’70s, no bodybuilder had a bubble gut, but now we see almost in every competition bloated bodybuilders with a bubble gut.

I think everyone can agree that the old-school bodybuilders looked better; even though they didn’t have the same mass, they still looked better.

Arnold was known for his incredible chest development, and still, to this day, it’s considered one of the best chests in history.

The entire upper body of Arnold was incredible; he had massive arms, a great back, and almost a perfect chest.

Arnold Chest and Back Workout

Arnold Schwarzenegger trained Chest and Back together in the same workout, which not everyone does.

However, it delivers excellent pumps, and that way, it’s easier to train chest and back two times every week.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Chest and Back Workout routine:

  • Barbell Bench Press (warmup) 1 set of 15 reps
  • Barbell Bench Press 4 sets: sets of 10, 8, 6, 4 reps stripping last two sets
  • Barbell Incline Bench Press 4 sets: same formula as Bench Press
  • Dumbbell Flyes : 3 sets of 10, 8, 6 reps
  • Parallel Bar Dips : 3 sets of 15, 10, 8 reps
  • Pullovers : 3 sets of 15 reps each
  • Chinup : 4 sets : at least 10 reps per set
  • Close Grip Chinup : 4 sets, 10 reps
  • T-Bar Rows : 4 sets of 15,12, 8, 6 reps
  • Chin-Ups 4 sets: 10 reps minimum each set
  • Bent Over Barbell Rows : 4 sets of 8-12 reps

Arnold Schwarzenegger, in his competitive days, was known to work out for long periods, sometimes training up to 4 hours per day.

Even though some may call, that overtraining, Arnold built up excellent physique training and did many reps.

Arnold also trained abs and calves quite a lot, preferably every day. However, his workouts weren’t all the same, and he used different variations like switching from barbell bench presses to dumbbell bench presses.

Arnold believes in confusing the body, changing the exercises and rep ranges, and keeping the body guessing. That was his method for growth.
