10 Things Gym Morons Do That Outrages Everyone

Fact Checked

We’ve all been in training in the gym, and you see something that goes on your nerves.

For example, someone that doesn’t rerack their weights or leaves gym equipment soaked in sweat.

Even though most people in the gym are respectable members that don’t bother everyone, there are always gym morons that seem to do a lot of things wrong in a public gym.

In this post ,we will go over ten things gym morons do that outrages everyone.

Disregarding Hygiene

This is not common in the gyms I have trained at for the last few years, but some people consistently disregard their hygiene.

Take The Quiz

What I mean by that is that you can smell their terrible ammonia sweat from a distance.

Some people don’t realize that you can’t sweat into clothes and use them multiple times before they get washed.

Recently I experienced this in a public gym; a guy smelled so bad that it bothered me; it actually distracted my workout because the smell was so terrible.

A little sweat smell won’t bother anyone; however, when you smell so bad that people have to go away from you, it should be an indicator that maby you need to take a shower and switch to fresh clothing.

Filming others in the gym and posting on social media

What you should never do in a public gym is film someone to embarrass, make fun of or humiliate.

There are many people that have no clue what they are doing in the gym; instead of making fun of them you should help them.

If you don’t want to help them, then don’t take your phone up and record them without their consent.

Videos like this can have damaging effects on someone’s reputation and even if you think it is funny, it could make someone quit completely in the gym if they see a video of themselves online where people are making fun of them.

Using benches or equipment you are not using and leaving your stuff on them

if you leave your stuff on a bench you are not using, people will assume someone is using it.

In a busy gym with limited equipment, this may partly ruin someone’s workout that assumes someone is using the equipment because there is stuff on it.

Of course, people should ask, but if you leave stuff in equipment, you are kind of saying: I am using this.

This is especially true in a busy gym, don’t use equipment you don’t need; you are not the only one training.

Lifting too close to the dumbbell rack

If you lift too close to the dumbbell rack you block the access to several dumbbells.

This can be very annoying if you are trying to grab some weights because the pathway is blocked because some moron is doing bicep curls right next to the dumbbell rack.

Move a distance away from the dumbbell rack so you don’t block off the access to the dumbbells.

A group of friends laughing, horsing around and taking up equipment in the gym.

A group of friends training together and hardly doing anything at all is a common occurrence in many gyms.

For these people the gym is a social setting where they meet up with friends and have a good time, it’s not about working out at all.

These people take away high-demand equipment from people who are in the gym to actually work out and hardly do anything.

These people could have easily met up at the bar and accomplished as much as they did at the gym.

Not reracking the weights or putting them where they don’t belong

This is so common that it happens in most gyms every day, and I can’t get why people do this.

The gym I currently train at is a mess; the dumbbells are all in the wrong rack (the racks show the weight where each dumbbell should belong).

The plates are arranged on the weight plate stand incorrectly, so you have a mix of plates; so if you want to use a certain plate, you may have to take some plates off the plate stand to access the plate you want to use and then put all the plates you took off in the correct place.

This creates chaos for everybody and takes precious time from your workout.

This is so easy to fix and do right, but many people have no concept of respect.

Slamming or dropping the weights unnecessarily.

I am not against slamming the weights if you are doing a heavy deadlift or something like that.

But if you are doing a dumbbell bench press with moderate weights, you don’t have to drop the dumbbells to the ground and create a mini earthquake in the gym after each set you perform.

Some people who drop weights in the gym are looking for attention.

These guys are usually a little bit stronger than the average gym goer and think they are some kind of a strongman pro.

it’s like they are trying to make it as loud as possible and don’t have to slam the weights.

As I said, I am not against slamming or dropping the weights because you have to, but if you don’t have to do it, just don’t do it.

Talking to someone who doesn’t want to be bothered

Many train people are laser-focused on their workout; they have their headphones in, are on a specific routine, and may even have limited time in the gym.

Some people think the gym is a social place to make friends, well it can be, but some people don’t like to be bothered in the gym.

Maby they only have 40 minutes to get a workout in, and if they look like they don’t want to be bothered, don’t talk to them.

Of course, this is not applicable in all situations as many gym goers would be happy to give pointers or help someone out.

But don’t bother someone for no reason, especially if they look like they are trying to do their workout quickly.

Using All the plates to ego lift or do quarter reps

Some gyms have limited plates, and if there is an ego lifter using all the plates to try to impress everyone in the gym, you may not find any plates.

Ego lifting is when someone lifts way too heavy weights with a bad form to impress others in the gym.

Just ignore these people and don’t give them your attention; if they don’t get attention from their ego lifting, they may eventually stop doing it.

That’s a win for the others that can then use the plates for doing actual work in the gym.

Couple cuddling and kissing in the gym

Some couples go to the gym together and work out.

It’s fine in most cases when they both work hard and are there to get results.

But sometimes the gym is a romantic date for couples, and they are not there to work out but to work on their relationship.

Well, it shouldn’t be a concern for you, but often these couples may take up high-demand equipment and are not doing much at all.

That’s why it can be frustrating.
