The last three or four reps is what makes the muscle grow. This area of pain divides the champion from someone else who is not a champion. That’s what most people lack, having the guts to go on and just say they’ll go through the pain no matter what happens.
-Arnold Schwarzenegger
Life is a plan of action, if you don’t have a plan somoeone is going to use you as a part of their fucking plan. -Greg Plitt
Reality Bites …. Then You BITE BACK!
From the very first time you picked up a muscle building magazine, visions of grandeur filled your thoughts and tunnel vision set in. You were determined and destined to be larger than life, with veins popping out all over the place, crushing ungodly amounts of weight and scaring all those who dared get in your way. In a very short amount of time you were able to amass a significant amount of strength, your muscles were growing at an alarming rate and people around you started to take notice.
You loved this feeling of physical superiority and there was nothing that was going to get in your way of being the best in the world. Then, without notice, harsh reality set in and you were faced with the reality that you did not win the genetic lottery for growing insane amounts of ripped muscle. This hit you hard and for an instant you thought about hanging up the posing trunks and felt all your hard work was for nothing. Then, that same fire inside your gut that got you up out of bed at 5am to do cardio and compelled you to pull 600 pounds off the floor for a solid 6 reps smacked you right in the face; and you took notice.
So what if you were not destined to be Mr. Olympia? Does that mean you should quit now while you are way ahead of where you began? Of course not! Grab the smelling salts and get your ass back in the gym. Here’s the deal; you are a bodybuilder regardless of your competitive accomplishments and your genetic potential and you are different from those around you who choose the easy lifestyle.
You have already established your ability to walk the fine line of crazy and insanity and along the way have distanced yourself from that puny weakling that was staring at you in the mirror prior to choosing this way of life. The never die attitude lies within your spirit and despite the restrictions put upon you by your parents and whatever genes they passed on you can still be a better version of yourself each and every day.
It’s now time to stop feeling bad about yourself and fight back against this harsh reality. Each workout is a grind and one that you welcome with open arms. Yes it will be easier for some to attain what you already possess and possibly surpass, but nothing easy is ever worth it. Each and every time you prepare your meals for the week, each time you find yourself alone in an empty gym doing cardio when everybody else is counting sheep in their cozy beds, every time you go to the end of the rack and reach under it to grab the dumbbells that hardly ever get used because they are too heavy remember this.
You are a bodybuilder; you are different and better than everybody else. You have an unparalleled drive that can compare to no other sport. So what if your destiny follows a path that won’t lead you to the highest accolades of our chosen sport. You’re knee deep in it now and there is no time like the present to forge on. Keep pushing, keep pulling and fight as hard as you can to bring out the gifts you were blessed with and keep solace in the fact that you are a bodybuilder for life.
I don’t eat for taste, i eat for function.
-Jay Cutler
Everybody wanna be a bodybuilder, but don’t nobody wanna lift no heavy ass weights.
-Ronnie Coleman
To achieve something you’ve never had before, you must do something you’ve never done before.
The only time Success comes before Work is in the dictionary.
You are born weak and die weak, what you are in between those two periods of time is up to you.
