The training method Tom Platz used to get his legs bigger is insane, he really made his legs suffer through the workout and pushed them until there was nothing left.

What is also impressive about that is that he used suck good form while doing it, that was his key in building his monster legs.

Arguably no bodybuilder back in the 80’s trained legs as hard as Tom Platz did, he made other competitors look like they skipped leg day.

Tom Platz Leg Day Quotes

Tom is a big fan of the squat and he usually did 8-12 sets of squats when training legs.

“I was taught by weightlifters and they taught me that the squat rack was the altar, It’s were life and death will take place every workout”

Tom Platz is a big believer in the squat along with the hack squat were he uses a very unique style of form.

The 5 rep quote from Tom Platz

“In the gym, there are always five reps, whenever you think there aren’t five reps left, You have five reps.

When you are hurting, can’t breathe, and can’t get up you can get up five more times”

Tom Platz also says:

“Every successful athlete enjoys taking calculated risks. You have to.

Especially in the gym when you are squatting 500 for reps and you can’t one more, but grunt out ten.

Your nose starts bleeding, you fall into the rack and that’s set one.”

In this workout Tom Platz demonstrates how to perform the squat, hack squat, leg extension and hamstring curls.

That is interesting to see is that Tom Platz gets a full contraction and trains to absolute failure.

We see many bodybuilders these days that do not fully contract their muscles in these exercises, Tom Platz arguably has the best legs ever so it’s time to use his tricks if you want to build up your legs.

Tom Platz did also a lot of volume when training legs, he did a lot of sets with many reps.

A typical Tom Platz Leg Workout Routine is:

  • Squats 8-12 sets of 5-20 reps
  • Hack Squats 5 sets of 10-15 reps
  • Leg Extension 5-8 sets of 10-15 reps
