Fact Checked

Jay Cutler is one of the best bodybuilders in history; in his career, he won the Mr. Olympia competition four times, and he was runner up six times.

Jay Cutler is the only bodybuilder in the history of Olympia to lose the title and win it again; he also holds the record for second place.

For years Jay Cutler battled with arguably the best bodybuilder ever, Ronnie Coleman; it took Jay Cutler years to beat Ronnie Coleman, which he was finally able to achieve in 2006 when he won his first Olympia title.

Jay won the title again in 2007 but unexpectedly lost the title to Dexter Jackson in 2008; at that time, Jay has said that everyone lost faith in him and didn’t believe he would ever win the Olympia again.

However, Jay proved everyone wrong and was the first bodybuilder that lost the title to come back and win it again.

Take The Quiz

Jay won the title in 2009, and the following year in 2010, he was also able to secure a win at the Olympia.

Jay Cutler is considered one of the best bodybuilders in history, and he was known for his high-volume training, where he took short rests in between sets.

To be the best, Jay had to eat a lot, and in a podcast with Michael Sartain, Jay describes his insane diet as a competitive bodybuilder.

I would eat 6000 calories per day or whatever and there’s a lot of people that go out in one meal and eat 6000 calories, so we walk about calories versus good and bad. So when you are actually building day in day out and eat every two hours, you know good food to equal that amount with low fat right, my goal was to eat as low fat as possible even the red meat I ate was super super lean. When I would diet down for contest I would cut down to white fish so if you asked me : I want to get in the best shape of my life, I would go on a more white fish diet, I would go moderate-low carbohydrates on certain days but I feel like every fourth day you need a big bump in carbohydrates but I would shift the calories we call this zigzag dieting so basically you know calories in a protein and carbohydrates is the same it’s four calories per gram where fat is nine calories per gram so ideally you shift the calories around and you can kind of trick your body into losing body fat but obviously maintain muscle. So my whole goal was to be as big as a possibly could on the Olympia stage but be as lean and we got down to three percent at you know 260, 270 lbs.

Jay Cutler also reveals that he ate at a point 140 egg whites per day, and at that time, you could not buy egg whites separately, so he had to crack open 140 eggs.

Jay says that he doesn’t enjoy food to this day after forcing himself to eat as a competitive bodybuilder.

I don’t enjoy food till to this day, like if you called me and say Jay there’s this wonderful restaurant opening in Las Vegas we see it all the time right, and you say what do you eat when you go out and I don’t want to have steak like I’m not a big steak eater at 48 now, I tend to eat some sushi but I am limited even on that um just because I know like a lot of sushi rice has a ton of sugar you know I might eat some plain fish or whatever else but there’s nothing that excites me , there’s no food oh does mom cook our special meal when I go back home or nothing.

Jay talks about the struggles of eating egg whites as a competitive bodybuilder:

I drink the egg whites now that’s the difference between to back then to now is they didn’t have pasteurized egg whites so now you can buy the cartons and you can drink them and that’s actually a very good source of protein instead of you know frying them up so I was cracking the eggs flipping the yolk out throwing it and then having the egg whites so it was a lot of work. I mean there were some diets, not going to lie, I ate 140 egg whites a day so I was cracking eggs non-stop.

Jay’s insane diet consisted of 1000 grams of carbs and 400 grams of protein per day.
