Paul Anderson is considered to be the strongest man to ever live, but hyperbole aside he’s definitely one of them. He’s set and re-broken countless records and his numbers speak for themselves. Some of his lifts have been disputed over the years, but the numbers below are all from official competitions with witnesses.
- Squat: 1,200 lb (540 kg) raw
- Bench press: 628 lb (285 kg) raw
- Deadlift: 820 lb (370 kg) raw
- Clean and press: 408.5 lbs (185.5 kg) on 1955-10-16, in Munich at the 1955 World Championships
- Snatch: 335 lbs (150.25 kg) on 1956-06-02 in Philadelphia at the 1956 Senior Nationals
- Clean and jerk: 440 lbs (190.95 kg) on 1956-06-02 in Philadelphia at the 1956 Senior Nationals
Paul Anderson also held the Guinness World Record for “the greatest weight ever raised by a human being” when he put up 6,270 pounds in a back lift. Since then, the flip-floppers at Guinness have expunged his record because there weren’t any witnesses present and nobody verified the actual weight of the weights. In other words, haters gonna hate.
