Or maybe you promised yourself you would start cutting in March but because your bulk was going so well you kept it going right into April. Either way, it’s time to shed some of that body fat so you can show off those juicy gains this summer.

1 – Stop Eating Processed Foods
Sugar, Alcohol and Simple Carbs have got to go.
They cause your blood sugar levels to spike and mess up your testosterone levels. Instead opt for more natural, organic foods along with complex carbs. If you need to sweeten your food use a natural sweetener rather than refined sugar. Your body will thank you for the change.
2 – Monitor your Portions
When you are on a bulk you aren’t watching your portions so quickly, after all you are trying to gain weight, not lose it.
However when it comes time to cut you have to monitor those calories closely as an extra handful of almonds can be the difference between losing fat and staying status quo.
Count up the calories from each meal and log them in a notebook or spreadsheet – it’s the most effective way to make sure you don’t overeat.
3 – Workout with High Intensity
While steady state cardio isn’t necessarily bad for losing fat it’s simply not the most effective way to get shredded.
High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT can be performed a variety of ways even outside of the gym and gives you the best bang for your buck in terms of fat loss. HIIT works by performing short bursts of high intensity activity followed by moderate pace activity.
Rotate between high and low-intensity spurts and you will encourage your body to burn up fat as fuel.
It will also force your body to burn more calories after your workout which means a nice boost to your metabolism, a great way to achieve your calorie deficit.
4 – Drink Lots of Water
This might be one of the most important principles to get ripped for summer! So listen carefully.
Water, and not coffee, is the most important drink for us.
Remember that our bodies are 70% water and this liquid is essential for transporting nutrients around your body. If you are dehydrated you simply won’t perform up to your maximum potential in the gym and at the office.
Keep a water bottle with you throughout the day and refill it multiple times to make sure you are getting what you need.
Also if you are drinking coffee you will need to make up for it with extra water since coffee actually dehydrates the body.
5 – Cook Your Own Meals
There are a number of problems with going out for food.
First, the ingredients are usually of a lower quality and they are prepared with sauces and toppings that are loaded with sugar, preservatives and god knows what else.
Second, it’s difficult to track your macros – while some restaurant chains post the calorie content of dishes on their site most do not. Even if they do post them it’s difficult to determine if these are accurate.
Stick to making nutritious meals at home around meats veggies and healthy fats and you will come a long way.

7 – Have Goals
Set a goal for yourself – for example to lose 12 pounds in 3 months. That means 1 pound a week. Next, figure out what sort of calorie deficit you will need to consume in order to achieve that and stick to it!
If you find you are not losing 1 lb each week then reduce your calorie intake slightly until you reach that level.
If you just show up at the gym occasionally without a goal your workouts will suffer and you will be unmotivated to eat clean.
Getting shredded for summer isn’t complicated. In fact, the process is quite simple – it just takes some discipline and good habits. Although you might want to skip workouts and eat junk food just remember that you will pay for it later on.
Having a shredded, muscular physique is the best feeling in the world, particularly when everyone else is sporting “dad bods”.
