The first world strongest man competition was first held in 1977 and since then we have seen some incredibly strong athletes compete in that show.
The competition has changed significantly since it was first hosted.
Last year the price pool of the world’s strongest man was $200,000 with the winner receiving $75,000 of that.
Throughout the years there have been many epic moments in a strongman competition.
For example when Eddie Hall was the first man in history to deadlift half a ton (500 kg’s) in a competition, a few years later Hafthor Björnsson his rival beat his record by 1 kg when he deadlifted 501 kg’s in his home gym.

There are many clips from the legendary Bill Kazmier who won the World’s Strongest Man three times in his career.
In the early days of strongman, there were different events such as arm wrestling, chopping logs, phone book tear, and many more bizarre events.
We’ve also seen a fair share of injuries in strongman competitions which is not strange since these guys are putting their strength to the absolute limit in these competitions.
One very interesting event was when Icelanders were competing against Americans in a race holding a barrel, Bill Kazmier pushes Magnus Ver Magnusson so he drops the barrel on his teammate resulting in an injury.
Thankfully events such as these are rarely seen in current strongman competitions.
