glute ham raises
I've heard great things about this particular exercise and there appears to be a machine for it, unfortunately my gym doesn't have it.Any ideas on how to perform it and if this exercise is as great as some people make it out to be?

Here is how I set mine up. Get on knees, feet under the bar and go.
Here are some videos of alternatives

Re: glute ham raises
Do you train alone?
I get my training partner to hold my feet, with padding under my knees.
I'd recommend GHR's to anyone, great for your hammys which is the key to great legs

quite possibly the best posterior chain development workout there is when it comes to increasing your explosiveness (besides box squatting ofcourse)

they're a great workout, just be sure you're properly hydrated + loaded with electrolytes when doing them
Had both of my calves cramp up the second week I ever did these and had trouble walking+doing cardio for several days after that.

Man thats the worst feeling. I always drink a bunch before the gym and carry a 1.5 liter bottle with me at the gym. It usually pretty hot at my gym so got to make sure I have enough fluids in me.

Re: glute ham raises
I love glute ham raises, just be sure not to activate your lower back. It can be easy to do.

They can be difficult at first for sure. When I first started doing them several years ago it took me a lot of practice to isolate the proper muscles, and keep my lower back from becoming involved. Now it's pretty easy, I guess practice makes perfect.

Re: glute ham raises
I've been doing glute ham raises consistently every week for over a year now. And my glute/ham tie in has improved dramtically. I have a show in one week from today and my glutes have never been this striated before. And I think I owe a lot to GHR by the way the back of my legs look now.
