Death visited the gym today
I don't know who he was, or even how old he was. I Don't rember seeing him before. Could be any one of thousands of members that I come accross at the Scottsdale Golds.
We were there 2 minutes when someone shouted "Call 911".
We peaked around the corner and one of the trainers was giving him CPR. It looked exactly as it does in the movies.
5 minutes later, a uniformed police officer took , this time the movie scene was over. His thrusts were much more intense. Powerful. Violent.
What was obisous, that unlike the personal trainer that tried to save this mans life, the badge had done this before. Many times.
I could see his stomach leaping up with every impact. Like a wave of flesh. Very hard to watch. Most of the time I simply looked away.
By the time Scottsdale Fire arrived the mans face was ashy, his lips purple, and his chances fading. It had been 15 minutes already and still he was lifeless.
By the time they put him on the stretcher it has been over 20 minutes had passed and still, no sign of recovery. I have to assume he died, and that their attempt at bringing him back had failed.
The mood of the gym was unlike I have every seen it. women, were crying. Big, strong men were silent, and nobody was better off for being apart of this mans death.
Probably, my worst day at the gym recorded.
